Equestrian Canada Sport Licence Safe Sport Training

Equestrian Canada (EC) is continuing its commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and high-quality experience for all who participate in equestrian sport across our country. As you begin to set your goals for the 2022 competitive season, EC is working hard to have the programs and infrastructure needed to maintain a competitive playing field where everyone can achieve their best.  EC wants everyone to understand the important updates that advance Safe Sport principles and ensure you are ready for the 2022 season!

New for sport licencing in 2022, all competitive athletes, owners, and officials are required to complete two EC Safe Sport training sessions, EC Concussion Awareness and Fostering Healthy Environment.  The training courses are provided FREE of charge to all sport license holders but must be completed no later than March 31, 2022, to remain a member in good standing.

Please complete the courses listed below, you can complete these courses at your own pace, your place in the course will be saved.  Once completed, your transcript will be automatically updated and you will be able to download a certificate of completition.

NCCP Competition Development: High Performance 1

Equestrian Canada's NCCP High Performance 1 (Competition Development) Coach is an advanced certification for coaches working with competitive athletes in the Learn to Compete, Train to Compete for stages of development aspiring to compete internationally.  The training involved in this certification is also relevant for coaches working with athletes in the Competitive for the Life stage of athlete development. 

Equestrian Canada's NCCP High Performance 1 (Competition Development) Coach are evaluated on their ability to:

• present a clearly articulated coaching philosophy
• demonstrate the ability to make ethical decisions and put your coaching philosophy into practice
• manage team, facility and program logistics including appropriate agreements, competition planning and emergency action planning
• provide a safe welcoming and inclusive environment for all athletes (human & equine), which promotes learning and supports development
• demonstrate the strong understanding of foundational skills, the ability to identify the root cause of technical & tactical skill to design and implement developmentally appropriate training sessions that enhance both horse and rider performance
• present a developmentally appropriate yearly training and competition plan (human & equine) which addresses technical, tactical, physiological and mental performance skills in preparation for international competition environments

NOTE: Prior to beginning any of the following steps, you must have "Active Coach Status: Current"

Driving Instructor

Specializes in introducing beginners to non-competitive or recreational Driving.

English Instructor - Flat

English Instructor - Jump

Specializes in introducing beginners to non-competitive or recreational riding in the English discipline.

Saddle Seat Instructor

Specializes in introducing beginners to non-competitive or recreational Saddle Seat riding.

Western Instructor

Specializes in introducing beginners to non-competitive or recreational riding in the Western discipline.

English Competition Coach

Foundational coach certification for coaches working with athletes actively competing in equestrian sport. This certification focuses on the English disciplines.

Steps 1 and 2 can be done in any order.  Step 3 must be completed sequentially.

Western Competition Coach

Foundational coach certification for coaches working with athletes actively competing in equestrian sport. This certification focuses on the Western disciplines.

Competition Coach Specialist: Eventing

Advanced certification for coaches who have completed their Competition Coach - English Certification. This certification focuses specifically on the preparation of athletes for Eventing competitions.

Competition Coach Specialist: Jumping

Advanced certification for coaches who have completed their Competition Coach - English Certification. This certification focuses specifically on the preparation of athletes for Jump competitions.

Competition Coach Specialist: Reining

Advanced certification for coaches who have completed their Competition Coach - Western Certification. This certification focuses specifically on the preparation of athletes for Reining competitions.

Competition Coach Specialist: Speed Events

Advanced certification for coaches who have completed their Competition Coach - Western Certification. This certification focuses specifically on the preparation of athletes for Speed Events.

NCCP Competition Coach Specialist: Dressage

Advanced certification for coaches who have completed their Competition Coach - English Certification. This certification focuses specifically on the preparation of athletes for Dressage competitions.

NCCP Competition Coach Specialist: General Performance

Advanced certification for coaches who have completed their Competition Coach - Western Certification. This certification focuses specifically on the preparation of athletes for General Performance competitions.

Training and documents required to be completed by all Equestrian Canada Committee members.
